Category: jcs wildlife bee house
This beautiful hand-made bee house is crafted by JCs Wildlife using recycled poly lumber. Featuring a fully screwed construction with stainless steel screws and routed edges, this house will not crack, split or fade, maintaining its vibrant, UV-protected appearance for years to come. The interior boasts 16 rows of removable, charred pine panels that provide the perfect nesting environment for mason bees.
The recycled poly lumber used in the construction is stain-proof, making the entire house easier to clean and maintain. Proudly made in the USA, this bee house will attract a variety of pollinators, including mason, orchard, leaf-cutter, aphid or carpenter bees. To use, simply attach the nesting box to the side of a post or building using the included mounting hardware, ensuring it faces east or southeast to allow the bees to take advantage of the morning sun.
Constructed using pine rows and recycled poly lumber, this large mason bee house is built to withstand any weather conditions. The resilient, crack, split and fade-resistant poly lumber ensures the house will retain its attractive appearance for years. The 16 removable pine panels make for easy cleaning and maintenance.
As the weather warms to 55°F in the spring, adult mason bees will emerge and begin the mating process, with females seeking out suitable nesting locations like this bee house. Over the following weeks, the females will lay their eggs, which will hatch into larvae that feed on the available pollen and nectar. By late June, the larvae will spin cocoons and develop into adult bees inside.
In the fall, the panels can be removed to reveal the cocoons, which can then be carefully extracted and stored in the refrigerator over the winter months. When temperatures reach 57°F for several days, typically in late February or early March, the cocoons can be returned outside to allow the adult bees to emerge and begin the cycle anew.
Mason bees are incredibly efficient pollinators, up to 60 times more effective than honey bees. A single female mason bee is equivalent to having 100 honey bees. These non-aggressive insects only live for 3-6 weeks as adults, but in that time, a female bee can visit up to 2,400 flowers per day, collecting pollen and nectar for her young. With the charred pine panels providing a cozy nesting environment, this bee house is designed to support a thriving mason bee population and contribute to crucial pollination efforts.
